DNArchive es un proyecto que envuelve experimentos de música, sonido, performance y moving image, por la artista, compositora y música brasileña Cândida Borges y colaboradores de diferentes nacionalidades. El proyecto trae el poder de la memoria, ancestralidad y de la migración a un proceso de investigación artística con inmigrantes en ciudades cosmopolitas del mundo – empezando por Nueva York – como un proceso de reconocimiento de identidad del artista y colaboradores.El sitio web ofrece a los participantes la posibilidad de enviar fotos, historias y también seguir la investigación y el proceso de creación artística. Puedes seguir al artista, escuchar y ver las nuevas producciones en la página TIMELINE. También podrás conocer los sonidos, las historias y las personas involucradas en el próximo álbum, video y presentación.Este proyecto es una investigación de doctorado en curso en la Escuela de Artes, Diseño y Arquitectura de la Universidad de Plymouth (Reino Unido).
The DNArchive is a project across music, sound, performance, installation and moving image experiments by the Brazilian artist, musician, composer Cândida Borges and collaborators from different nationalities. The project brings the power of memory, ancestry and migration to a practice based artistic research process with immigrants in cosmopolitan cities around the world – starting by New York – as a process of set recognition of identity for the artist and participants.
The website gives participants the possibility to send photos, stories, and also follow the research and the artistic creation process. You can follow the artist, listen and watch the new productions in TIMELINE. You can get to know the sounds, the stories and the people involved in the upcoming album, video and performance.
This project is a PhD research in progress at Plymouth University (UK), at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
THE RESEARCHERCândida Borges is a musician and interdisciplinary creative artist, educator, composer, researcher, currently conducting PhD research into human transhumance in contemporary music and sound art, based at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at the Plymouth University. The project “Integrating a new diaspora into composition” is motivated by the researcher’s own experience as a Brazilian born artist traveling the world to recognize her identity and ancestor’s legacy. Cândida is also a Fellow Researcher for Antioquia University (Colômbia) and has been an Associate Professor of Music for the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) since 2009. She has also been an invited Professor for international institutes, festivals and universities.Cândida was awarded a prize from the National Foundation of Arts in Brasil and since then has been based in New York developing this research about multiculturalism into electronic music composition and methodologies of music education. She holds a Bachelors degree (2000) and a Masters degree (2005) in Piano Performance from Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ), and her career also explores technology and her abilities as a singer and songwriter. Classically trained, she has also been making music for films, ballet, theater, collaborations with DJs and producers worldwide, and especially for her own career. Cândida’s last works has been highly reputated in the international electronic scene in the US, as well as the sound tracks, workshops, conferences and installations she has been presenting around the world. To share her research to a broader audience, she created the website www.dnarchiveproject.com and social networks channels where she journals and shows results from her research, including the participation of the international artists she engaged in the project as collaborators.
